Ecosystem Dynamics Modeling

Research programs by the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute (MFI) also include marine ecosystem dynamics modeling. Such modeling can predict marine ecosystem changes based on environmental data. The Marine Ecosystem Dynamics Modeling Group at the MFI continues to develop a Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model, allowing scientists, fishermen and the general public to manipulate dynamic small-scale prediction maps for different environmental variables. Researchers use this model to work on a wide range of applications, from water quality studies in estuaries to basin-scale circulation simulations. The Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model is world renowned and freely available, and continues to be utilized by numerous researchers and institutions.
