Identifying Use Patterns and Essential Habitat

An important component of the MHBNL is the identification of essential habitats for each life stage of important fishes and invertebrates. A better understanding of how animals use these habitat, and what factors regulate growth and movements is critical to efforts to model the effect of natural and anthropogenic impacts on habitat quality and fish population dynamics.
Fish and Invertebrate Life Histories and Population Dynamics
At each life history state there are key factors to be monitored and modeled.
For example:
  • migration triggers
  • essential fish habitat identification
  • growth/survival
  • predators and food
  • water quality
  • fishing pressure
